Knowledge is Power
You can only attain the goals you have set for yourself if you have the right knowledge. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”- Hosea 4:6. Therefore, if you are not informed by obtaining the right knowledge, you will certainly be deformed. Knowledge empowers you to know what to do and how to do it. The goal of education is to impact you, improve your knowledge and develop your skills. Education is enlightenment; it unravels the mystery and eliminates ignorance. It also unravels the secret of how our world works and how we can make it better than we met it. It is aimed at improving how we relate with each other and our environment so that we can explore and exploit it to the glory of God and the benefit of mankind. Education develops the capacity of man to be aware of his creator, himself, and the environment so as for him to be useful to society. It helps you discover who you are, what you are capable of doing, and who you are destined to become. It develops your moral values by enlightening you on the value systems you should live by to be beneficial to yourself and society. Your level of education informs your decisions, approach to issues, and your character. The more educated you are the more knowledgeable you become, the more your level of understanding, and the more wisdom that is available to you to attain your purpose in life.
Formal Education minus Self-education equals Average living
Moreover, the type of education I’m referring to is not the formal education you go to school to acquire. Formal education is a system that has been designed to achieve a definite goal and make you think in a certain way. It is to enable you to function within the world system or a box that has been formed by a particular ideology. It leads to the impartation of ideas, opinions, or concepts already developed by certain people. That is why most people do not innovate or create new things. For instance, Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard University to concentrate on his invention of an Operating System that would enable every household to afford the computer. He discovered that the learning system of the university is not sufficient or inadequate and did not give him room to achieve his vision. Thomas Edison only had formal education for 12 weeks, however, he patented about 1093 inventions. According to Biography.com, “in 1854, Edison’s family moved to Port Huron, Michigan, where he attended school for a total of 12 weeks. A hyperactive child prone to distraction he was deemed “difficult” by his teachers. His mother quickly pulled him from school and taught him at home. At age 11 he showed a voracious appetite for knowledge reading books on a wide cause of subject. In this wide-open curriculum Edison developed a process of self-education and learning independently that would serve him throughout his life”

Formal Education will only make you have a career, a job, or work for someone. It does not enable you to think independently but according to the curricular. What formal education does is give you skills that you can leverage for your self-education which will be tailored towards your life purpose. If you want to go far in life and make a meaningful and significant impact, achieve what only a few people attain, and even make a huge difference, then self-education is your best bet.
